Tiny Friends by Sergio Mendoza

  • In the wildness, the strangest friendships may arise. Who remembers the story of the baby hippo and 130-year-old tortoise after the 2004 tsunami? Connections don’t have to be so unusual, and Sergio Mendoza encourages even the most ordinary, such as that between a bird and a mouse. Tiny Friends, crafted under the guidance of Juan Carlos Iñesta and his studio, is a set of two clay flowerpots with holes carved at respective heights: a door-shaped opening for the humble mouse and a round hole-and-peg for the friend in flight. The adorable, though not entirely functional, nature of these two pots renders them inseparable. Even a curmudgeon would feel his heart melt, and wouldn’t be able to resist purchasing a pair.
