By calling upon the capabilities of sugar as the edible glass, Amélia Desnoyer creates a sweet, new experience with her crafted drinking vessels. Shaping Sugar is a process that fuses workshop and kitchen, as  Desnoyer prepares her material of choice. Working with sugar as a medium is quite similar to working with glass, as demonstrated by the video documenting Desnoyer’s creation process; the heated material is poured into a mold, which is then spun around to form the bowl of the vessel and cooled upon a wooden stem and base. The colors and flavors that Desnoyer concocts in her test kitchen are brilliant shades of the rainbow, and not only match the visual appearance of blown glass but exceed the typical with another human sense: taste.
