Life is tough and rough in the city; take, for example, the image in Fitzgerald’s Gatsby, of the billboard eyes of T.J. Eckleburg that burn with judgment at the dirt and grime of city offals. In contrast, IBM teams up with the creative consultants at Ogilvy Paris to deliver innovative and interactive advertisements that support and embrace. The fun ads leave the world of 2D and the colorful graphics jump off the metaphorical page. An awning extends from one billboard to provide shelter from the rain, while another unfolds a green ramp across a series of steps. As part of the “People for Smarter Cities” initiative, the ads represent creativity and cleverness in a tangible manner. Just check out the two kids sharing a moment on the makeshift park bench; they’ve got the right idea.
