Many might be familiar with the structural marvels of a weaver bird’s nest, but even at the most fundamental level, the nests of your backyard residents are equally impressive. Bianca Tuckwell, in her photograph series, features the architectural marvels of a variety of birds. The portraits of the nests against pastel backgrounds depict the careful planning of each home’s construction, and also reveal the analogies between a bird’s nest and architecture. A moss-lined nest might evoke the notion of a carpeted interior while extraneous odds and ends incorporated with the massing of twigs might point to reuse and recycled materials. So perhaps, architects – let’s not be too proud. We’re not the only ones designing homes!
