CoCo Architecture’s 2009 project “Renovation House D” updates a large country home to fit the needs of a contemporary family. In renovating the house, the architects kept the original stone, while finishing their modern vision with concrete, wood, and steel. Their blend of old-cottage details and fresh design gives the space a fresh and ethereal look. While the house incorporates many charming elements, including nooks in the walls and a spiral staircase, the highlights are the tent-like children’s rooms, which embrace the sloped ceilings and exposed beams by playing with unusual angles and pops of pink, green, orange, and red. Beautiful and made to be “lived in,” the renovated home is a fine reinterpretation of the French country house.
