Illustrator Federico Babina’s “archicine” brings in details from actual film sets and takes creative liberty to fill in the rest of the picture. In this original series of movie posters, Babina features the buildings as the stars. The subjects of “archicine” range from Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window to George Lucas’ Star Wars, celebrating the visual splendor of many different cult classics.
While the iconic set of Rear Window was constructed by Paramount Studios and the space world of Star Wars was created through set design and computer-generated imagery, many of these famous film sites are also significant architectural landmarks. The three respective houses in A Single Man, Body Double, and The Big Lebowski, for instance, were designed by architect John Lautner. Capturing the aesthetic and mood of each structure and movie depicted, “archicine” offers viewers a new way to admire their favorite designs and films. These posters are a gold mine for filmophiles, architecture lovers, and all-around trivia buffs.
