Designer Alessandro Zambelli’s Afilia Lighting series draws from botany, tradition, and innovation. The name “afilia,” translating to “leafless,” suggests that the lamps can be read as naturalist, “leafless but not lifeless” objects. Like earthen bulbs, the lamps have green cords and wooden bases, which are handcrafted from pine. Even the light diffusers, seemingly extraterrestrial in 3D-printed nylon, reference nature via the honeycomb shape of the lattice. Blending traditional and recent technology, all within a biophilic lens, Zambelli’s Afilia Lighting illuminates inspiring new paths in design.
