Ben Foster’s Animal Sculptures

View all 8 Photos

New Zealand sculptor Ben Foster began making a series of geometric animals in 2011. The to-scale sculptures depict favorite animals–including a horse, a seal, and two Golden Retrievers–with angular aluminum bodies carefully contoured and positioned in natural, photo-ready poses. With the tilt of a head or arc of a tail, each creation evinces personality and an appearance of reacting to its environment. At the same time, the designs are highly stylized, shining in arctic white automotive paint. Playing with organic and artificial forms, Foster balances life-likeness with interpretation, generating a dynamic sense of equilibrium as only nature and art know how.
