From far Northern Europe, Maija Puoskari’s glasswork arrives in Milan. I found her work at one of the many small stands of the Salone Satellite, a stand which gathered all the young designers, mostly foreigners, and those still poorly understood. There, I read the biography of Maija, who I think is perhaps little known here in Italy. The designer was born in northern Finland, in Tornio. Most recently, she studied applied art and design at Aalto University of Helsinki, but, she also holds degrees in applied science and in floral design. There was a lot of nature imagery, in short, in her formative years, and certainly in the objects that she puts forth today. She brought to Milan a modular vase, Pi-no Pi-no, that can be assembled by the user and a lamp, Liuku, a simple suspension consisting of two parts, a glass lampshade and a wooden attachment.
