Sand Art by Andres Amador

View all 1 Photos

Self-described earthscape artist Andres Amador creates grand yet temporary sand art on the beaches of San Francisco. His large, abstract designs play with geometric or organic shapes, drawing inspiration from fractals or the changing seaside landscape. Using rakes and ropes, Amador begins working an hour before low tide and welcomes the erasure of his pieces as a part of the medium that reflects “the story of our lives.” The temporary quality of his drawings mystifies the many people who admire them, starting a conversation with the viewers about the nature of art and environment. Luckily, not all of Amador’s work washes away within the course of a day. Check out his earthscapes in this video interview captured by Arts KQED.
