Casa C is part of a one-hundred-year-old settlement and protected monument in the mountain valley of Reckingen-Gluringen, Switzerland. The village center is composed of narrow alleys lined with stone buildings, log houses, and two-level barns. Historically, Casa C served as one of the barns, but, as modern animal protection ruled the space unfit, the owner had to repurpose the building. Camponovo Baumgartner Architekten were hired to convert the barn into a guest house without harming the historic exterior. The renovations echo the original materials, as the house is made entirely of untreated wood, from the native larch floors to the birch walls and ceilings. Warmer and more lighthearted than before, the interior features a wood stove, square windows, and several perforated decorations sprinkled throughout, transforming the rustic barn into a peaceful retreat.
