Refurbished Flat in Islington by Ben Ridley Architect

Built in 1860, this London house was renovated into an apartment in the 1970s. The Grade 2 listed building has seen many changes, most recently architect Ben Ridley’s refurbishment of the first floor. Today, the flat welcomes guests with an open plan kitchen integrated into the living room, a move which allowed Ridley to convert the old kitchen into another bedroom. While the public areas shine in white, the bedroom and bathroom areas and respectively painted black and tiled with slate, giving these intimate spaces a more country, quiet feel. The exposed cornices and raw wood floors texturize the apartment, while the Carrara marble fireplace and backsplash add polish.
