The Mosaic Mandala Series: Native Utah Elements is a collection of found object designs by Matt W. Moore. A divergent move from the artist’s usual urban artwork, the new series collects natural totems from Powder Mountain and the surrounding valleys in Eden, Utah. Moore then placed the pieces in geometric arrangements, a process he describes as being “like playing caveman Tetris.” Inspired by and created at the artist residency SUMMIT, the work echoes traditional imagery and expands the definition of folk art. In the future, Moore plans to develop these naturalist designs into environments that are interactive on the ground and decorative from an aerial view.
