Presented at this year’s Design Weekend São Paulo, Project Brazil is a collaborative installation and workshop by three Milan-based studios: Analogia Project, Giorgio Bonaguro, and Marco Guazzini. The art display draws inspiration from “gatos,” here meaning stolen power or “unofficial, and often illegal, electrical connections made in order to get electrical power from legal official electricity sources in favelas.” In São Paulo specifically, people without the means to buy electricity for their homes often tap it from nearby streetlamps. Project Brazil evokes such imagery by experimenting with thin strings of copper wire. The bright material cascades from the ceiling, gets tangled up on the floor, and is transformed into domestic sculptures such as chandeliers, bowls, and cutlery, symbols of plenty.
