“Hitoride. Literally: by Yourself, Alone.” is an in-production, printed collection of photography by the Italian artist Pierfrancesco Celada. Reflecting five years of work, the book draws from the award-winning project Japan, I wish I knew your name. Like the series preceding it, the volume explores themes of “miscommunication and isolation” from the perspective of a foreign traveler in Japan. Celada captures portraits of individuals separated from the country’s population of 80 million. In his photographs, people young and old are shown to be distanced by modern culture, architecture, and technology. The thought-provoking book is being crowdfunding until December 9, 2014. Set to be produced in just 1,000 limited edition copies, the title will be introduced by Michael Zielenziger, accompanied by text by Ueyama Kazuki, edited by Renata Ferri, and designed by Tankboys.
