Built on the cliffs of Gambier Island, this sleek house is a getaway home for a Vancouver-based family of four. The roomy house is composed of two boxy volumes and two stories, providing plenty of space for a relaxing weekend outside the city.

Designed by Josemaria de Churtichaga and Cayetana de La Quadra-Salcedo of ch+qs arquitectos, the B House reflects the yellows found in the surrounding fields. The single-wood house has a yellow undertone reminiscent of the muddy sheeps’ wool and summer hay.

Ucycles is a young workshop that makes customized bicycles in Italy. They built one of their latest designs, the 12F1, for a client requesting a fixed-gear bike with disc brakes on the rear wheel.

The Anza Machine by Montaag reimagines the espresso machine without stainless steel. The innovative design is handmade of concrete, quartz, and porcelain with corian, brass, and teak components.

 

Memobottle, a young brand based in Melbourne and in San Diego, recently unveiled a water bottle that’s slim and easy to pack. Somewhat like a large, transparent flask, the design is inspired by paper and comes in A5, A4, and letter sizes.

 

This unique set of hand tools from ChauhanStudio—a London based industrial design practice founded by Tej Chauhan—is designed to turn a once industrial item into a tool that will fit in outside of the workshop.

 

Normal Studio of France recently created five geology-inspired end tables. Each of the pieces is made entirely of wood and charred black so that it resembles volcanic basalt.

The Land Rover 2014 is a calendar designed by art director Zeynep Orbay. The 3D topographic map has a different shade for every month of the year and is sure to win over geology and design lovers alike.

 

This 2006-model R1200S BMW was redone by Renard Speed Shop in Estonia. Bright and balanced, this build is striking yet casual, a unique design with popular appeal.

Viks, an urban bicycle company operating under Estonian designer Indrek Narusk, celebrated its one year anniversary, or Anniveloversary, the tenth of March of this year. The Anniveloversary bike was designed to commemorate the birth of Narusk’s company with a slightly different spin on the design that started it all.

“Incandescences” is a striking collection of unedited images by French photographer Xavier Dumoulin. The series took more than a year to create, as Dumoulin shot after dusk, at specific locations, and under the full moon.

Presented at Milan Design Week, this stationary motorcycle, the JVLT014, functions as a playful seat. The unique piece was created by Italian designer Joe Velluto and motorcycle company NorthEastCustom to suggest new possibilities in the realm of custom builds.

New from Feit, the Biotrainer 1 is a completely handmade sneaker blending organic textures and neutral colors. Each pair of shoes is skillfully crafted over the course of two weeks, guaranteeing the quality of the final product.

Designed by Estel Alcaraz, Sardines is a pair of traditional Wellington rain boots that roll up for easy packing and storage. The shoes are made of thermoplastic polyurethane, a material which is soft and recyclable.

A new arrival at Seibu in Japan, the Scale watch is a minimalist timepiece inspired by rulers. The practical style accessory was designed by Nendo as part of their Draftsmen01 series.

The Simple Backpack is a handmade leather bag for the informed consumer. The minimalist design is constructed with as few seams as possible.

Handmade in Alicante, Spain Oli13’s new E.E.1929 brogues honor the designer’s grandfather Enrique, a Spanish farmer. The letters “E.E.” are Enrique’s initials, and 1929 is the year he was sixteen, riding his bicycle and enjoying life.

 

Designed by Moritz Putzier, the Cooking Table is a multifunctional table with a bench and storage bowls. Altogether, the Cooking Table makes for as bare a kitchen experience as one can find indoors.

GBlog got the chance to speak with Jasper Morrison before the launch party celebrating his latest book and his most recent designs for Swiss furniture company Vitra.

 

In honor of the 125th anniversary of Vincent van Gogh’s death, Studio Roosegaarde designed this magical bike path inspired by “Starry Night.” The glow-in-the-dark cycling trail lights up the ground with swirls of blue and green that resemble the sky in van Gogh’s famous painting.
