This small one-bedroom apartment, called 3 Vaults, was refurbished by R3Architetti. The space now serves as a home and an Airbnb rental in Turin, Italy. The three “vaults” of the plan are the common area, the bedroom, and the bathroom. In the common area, one finds a short diagonal hall connecting the living room, the naturally-lit study, and kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is detailed with exposed concrete walls, oak doors, and zinc-coated steel pipes. The interior design pairs simple materials with sparing vintage decoration from 1905 for a refined industrial atmosphere. In the bathroom, this takes the form of a light blue-green wash on the ceiling and a sculptural concrete sink. Strengthening the connection between the two private rooms, the artful ceiling extends over to the bedroom and brings a touch of color to the otherwise neutral-toned space.
