Anyone who sleds knows that speeding down hills is fun, but carrying the sled back up and taking it home can be a chore. To make sledding simpler all around, Max Frommeld & Arno Mathies, the British duo behind the Folding Boat and many other handy products, designed the Folding Sled. As its name suggests, the sled folds down to a compact shape so that it is readily portable and stackable. This means that an adult can easily haul it around town, carry it onto a city bus, pile it into the trunk of the family car, or put it out of the way until next winter. Thanks to the handy folding mechanism, this European design is versatile all-around.

Made using a blend of contemporary and traditional methods, the sled’s lightweight plastic seat and hinges are CNC-cut from recyclable, engineering-grade plastic, but its skates are steam-bent from locally sourced ash wood. Each component is crafted by Graf Schlitten, one of the oldest sled makers in Switzerland. Together, the plastic and wooden components form a hybrid between a racing and family sled that’s fast and also strong enough to support up to two people.
A great item for individuals or resorts looking for low-hassle winter activity, the folding sled delivers on adventure without taking up undo space. Available from £170, the Folding Sled comes in black or white with naturally finished skates. Pre-order is on Kickstarter, where Max Frommeld & Arno Mathies will be crowdfunding until March 5, 2015.
