Presented at this year’s Stockholm Furniture Fair among an array of student work from the Swedish school HDK Steneby, Nathaniel Dackelid’s adaptable “Wooden Cloth” table stood out from the crowd. The clever modular construction makes the table adjust to fit any space with incredible ease, not to mention the sleek design and high-quality craftsmanship of locally grown ash and an osmo oil finish. Here you can watch the table’s graceful transition from a limp tapestry of wood to a structured surface. While the form of the piece is very striking, the true beauty of the design lies in Dackelid’s careful consideration of the life of the wood and its impact on the life of the consumer; its unique ability to accommodate the owner’s needs makes it a useful piece of furniture not only within a space, but throughout one’s life.

Lizzie

Lizzie Wright is an aspiring artist and designer with a passion for the written word. While she works on her BFA in Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she spends her (rare) spare time riding around Providence on her trusty Cannondale and drinking lots of coffee. She is especially fascinated by the dichotomy between aesthetic form and function, which has an immense influence on her work. As a lover of the natural world, Lizzie plans to focus on Nature, Culture, and Sustainability Studies to pursue a more efficient future for design. Read more by visiting her website
