The SHR House is a large gray home created by Sun Tan Architects Studio in Hachioji, Japan. Designed for an extended family of ten people, the building is divided into a common area and three units, so that the residents can spend as much time together and apart as they wish. The versatile space features details such as plastered walls, arched doorways, sliding windows, and a wood-lined porch. Inside and out, the home is decorated in white, gray, and the pale brown of Oregon pine. Outside, the plot keeps the zelkova trees that predate the house, giving the land natural beauty and support.
