An organic design by the Australian studio Giant Grass, the (f)route POD is a semi-permanent tent that takes its cue from the earth. The curved form resembles a bulb of garlic and is crafted from natural materials such as the waterproof canvas that makes up the canopy, the bamboo of the structure and woven lamp, and the upcycled wood pallets that form the base. As a result, the design is sustainable and appealing to hippies and outdoorsmen of all generations.
Spacious enough for a double bed, the (f)route POD is an obvious choice for camping. Additionally, the tent can be used as a guest room, an art or exercise studio, a gazebo, or an event space. Transforming from a closed pod into an open-air shelter, the design is walled with awnings that can be rolled up or opened outwards as desired. Inside the tent, there is also a small screened window, which can be covered or revealed, and cloth ties, which show how the unique structure is held together.
Though currently a prototype, the (f)route POD is expected to be produced starting later this year. The design will come flatpacked and can be assembled by two people in less than an hour.
