As imaginative as it is functional (and recently awarded the prestigious 2015 Red Dot Award for best product design), Andorra designer Xavier Mora’s Voltasol pot can literally make your plants come to life. The use of a sloping, conical base allows the Voltasol to move, either manually or independently. A change in wind or a subtle touch could shift the pot one way or another, meanwhile the potted plant has the freedom to move with the sun which allows for a unique experience that promotes the plant’s growth. Although the design breaks away from previous models for the flowerpot that may be considered “static,” it maintains a certain domestic charm in its terra-cotta construction and spare monotone accents. Both user- and plant-friendly, Voltasol is sure to give you a green thumb. Produced by Studio BAG Disseny and available for purchase here in five distinct colors.

Lizzie Wright is an aspiring artist and designer with a passion for the written word. While she works on her BFA in Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), she spends her (rare) spare time riding around Providence on her trusty Cannondale and drinking lots of coffee. She is especially fascinated by the dichotomy between aesthetic form and function, which has an immense influence on her work. As a lover of the natural world, Lizzie plans to focus on Nature, Culture, and Sustainability Studies to pursue a more efficient future for design. Read more by visiting her website
