GRO, Modular Furniture Collection by Alex Haggar

Industrial design student Alex Haggar premiered the GRO line of furnishings at New York’s Design Week.
Described as an exploration into the diverse and changing needs of individuals over time, GRO is an adaptable set of furniture targeted toward young professionals. Consisting of only 12 component parts, the collection includes a chair and tables of 4 different sizes.

Using birch plywood and cork for the surfaces, the structures are supported by aluminum and 3D printed stainless steel, both completed with a white powder-coated finish. The high-quality materials promote the longevity of the pieces, encouraging sustained use over time. And the ability of the components to be continually re-configured with no tools means that they can be adjusted as the need arises.

The simple forms, clean lines, and natural materials help GRO avoid the appearance of most modular furniture. Cork is a durable, renewable, hypoallergenic material that adds comfort without creating visual excess. And the wide variety of possible forms and configurations means that GRO can adapt to ever-changing situations, environments, and lifestyles over time.
