We sit more than we realize: at work, during meals, on the phone, in the car, while we chat with family and friends. But in reality, our lives aren’t so static – and neither is Rocking Swing, the chair by Industrial Designers Tobias Nickerl and Clara Rivière that merges young and old, action and repose. Created for both in- and out-door use, the piece subtly draws on two familiar archetypes, a child’s swing and a grandparent’s rocking chair, for a reduced design with a whimsical “double movement;” a leather seat hangs from the metallic main frame which meets the floor with angled blades. Clean connections tie the playful product together, as seen in the striking orange rope that comes to a knot at the edge of the seat and its cheerful linear turquoise frame. Simple, engaging, and remarkably intuitive, Rocking Swing brings “intergenerational fun.”
