Studio Zung is a modern studio that focuses on architecture, design and branding based at Neuehouse (NYC). Its founder, architect Tommy Zung, recently designed the studio’s first surfboards and skateboards collection, the Zung Ride. After having chased waves and pavement in Montauk, Mundaka, Biarritz, and far beyond for over 30 years, Zung decided to design products to have “very good shapes that make you surf better.” Designed in-house, and hand-shaped in Southern California, the 7, 8, 9-foot-long boards are made from polyurethane foam and fibreglass and finished with either paint or resin tint. The graphics are inspired by Ellsworth Kelly paintings. The dynamic relationship between shape and color gives a distinctive minimal overall look to the boards.
The collection also features skateboards, initially designed for Zung’s 13-year-old son, Kaikoa. The limited-edition Kaikoa deck and the Essaouira (inspired by Moroccan tiles) are made in New York City from seven-ply maple plywood.
Surfboards and skateboards are available to purchase on Studio Zung website.
