Two years may seem like a long period to devote to developing a product, but for the designers at Meze, the results speak for themselves. Within the first two days of their indiegogo campaign, Meze has already raised 85% of their goal to fund the production of their 99 Classics Wood Headphone design. Combining the quality of handcrafted products with formidable modern technology, they have reinvented the wheel in the pursuit of the perfect headphone. Each element of the product has been engineered to improve on conventions, from a more comfortable headband to a sound system tuned to deliver balanced and natural frequencies (unlike those bass boosting atrocities that slap a lowercase “b” on cheap plastic ware). The quality is perhaps most apparent in the wood crafted ear cups, which are harvested from sustainable sources of Walnut and Maple (for the Gold and Silver models respectively) before being CNC routed and then hand finished and polished. The headphones sit comfortably on ones ear thanks to the use of soft memory foam in the ear-pad design, covered in PU leather. The assembly utilizes just nuts and bolts to ensure that these wood headphones will stand the test of time, with none of the adhesives typical in cheaper designs that degrade after a while. But to get a true sense of the heart going into these products, just simply bear in mind that it takes around 45 days to make each one perfect. Like a finely tailored suit, these headphones are built to last.

Nathaniel

Amid the unrest of earning his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from RISD, Nathaniel manages to find the time to read, write, hang out with friends, play drums, and listen to music. Nathaniel has learned a lot about architecture firsthand thanks to opportunities to live and work in Rome and Brooklyn during the past year. Coming from a family with strong roots in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Nathaniel has always maintained a strong love for NYC especially, and after his studies finish up in Providence he may move there for a while. He hasn't decided yet. You can connect with him via Linkedin or by visiting his Portfolio page.
