The Group B era of motorsport racing (from 1982 to 1986) was marked by great feats of ingenuity through the combination of exotic materials and emerging technologies into machines that tested the limits of human imagination and tenacity. Its mentality fostered some of the greatest rally cars the world has ever seen and to honor this legendary period watchmaker Autodromo has released the Group B watch to capture the maverick spirit of the era. The first thing one notices about Group B is its incredible lightness, as it is in fact the lightest watch the maker has ever produced, weighing only 52 grams despite including a self-winding mechanical movement. The face of the watch is inspired by the tachometer of a Group B rally racer; featuring a sleek and minimalist design that breaths authority and recalls the wonders of the period. And underneath the hood is a Miyota 9015 automatic movement, ensuring an accurate timekeeper. This movement is housed in a bimetallic case composed of titanium and stainless steel, which gives the watch its space age heft (or more accurately, lack of it). But with a watch as fine as this must come a package to match, and on this Autodromo delivers with each piece sold in a hand-crafted aluminum box (with a number plaque to ensure authenticity), and straps inspired by racing harnesses. These nylon straps come as a pair; one in gray and one matching the color of the dial markings (available in red, yellow, white, and blue). Together these elements embody the essence of what made the Group B era so exciting and memorable, and reminds us of what can be accomplished when the human mind is pushed to its full potential.

Nathaniel

Amid the unrest of earning his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from RISD, Nathaniel manages to find the time to read, write, hang out with friends, play drums, and listen to music. Nathaniel has learned a lot about architecture firsthand thanks to opportunities to live and work in Rome and Brooklyn during the past year. Coming from a family with strong roots in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Nathaniel has always maintained a strong love for NYC especially, and after his studies finish up in Providence he may move there for a while. He hasn't decided yet. You can connect with him via Linkedin or by visiting his Portfolio page.
