With the resurgence of vinyl in recent years, people have come to realize that a need for sound quality will often trump the convenience of having music on the go. But no matter how pristine your records are kept, if they aren’t played through a solid speaker system the difference will be lost on you. But don’t take this to mean that you need to blow all your savings on a massive audio arrangement that destroys the aesthetic of your living room or den with a mess of plastic and wires. Thanks to the work of Jerry Cmehil, there are now several neat solutions to help you get the most out of your music. Cmehil is the founder of Well Rounded Sound (WRS), a company that since 2011 has made it its mission to bring audiophiles the best quality equipment housed within beautiful, eco-friendly designs.

Though each of the sets could fit on a bookshelf or desktop, from the instant you turn them on you’ll realize that their bark and bite are both greatly outsized.

Frustrated with the lack of good desktop speakers for his computer, Cmehil has developed a series of products that hit the “sweet spot between price, performance and size,” delivering a naturally crisp sound within speakers around the size of a pencil sharpener. Named after an array of appropriately compact dog breeds, WRS’s speakers (from the Yorkie up to the Corgi II) provide within the triple Venn diagram of a sweet spot a range of options to meet any user’s specific needs. Taken as a whole, each set of speakers utilizes a conical geometry paired with full range HD drivers housed within a cylindrical enclosure finished in premium wood. Though each of the sets could fit on a bookshelf or desktop, from the instant you turn them on you’ll realize that their bark and bite are both greatly outsized. The design is truly ingenious, as every element plays a key role in providing the best sound possible. Even the integrated solid wood stands (such as the one found on the Boxer) help to reduce bass energy transfer and give you a perfect near-field listening angle. The patented cylinder sealed enclosure eliminates distortion from port noise, and the variety of authentic wood finishes help the speakers match any furniture set in the room. Even the entry-level Yorkie set offers better sound quality than most comparable systems on the market, but the real excellence WRS brings is found in the illustrious Corgi II. An aluminum plug extends high frequencies to up to 25,000 Hz, while the self-damped speaker cone and monocoque construction ensure unparalleled clarity. The use of paper and bamboo fiber alongside the Finnish Birch used in the monocoque construction is a welcome change from the excess of plastic used in most speaker designs these days, and helps prove that quality products should be paired with sustainable material choices. All these elements come together to help you rediscover your favorite music in a well-rounded system, provided by Well Rounded Sound.
