Old meets new via skillful interior design in this three-level property located in a Grade II-listed building in West Kensington, London. Used as a courthouse since 1908 and completely renovated in 2012 to make way for contemporary living spaces, the building is filled with an unmistakable old-time beauty. The courthouse preserves its 1900s charm intact, from the red brick and baroque accents of the exterior to its striking vaulted ceilings and large windows.

Original elements can be found throughout Court Room No.1. In the open-plan kitchen, a rich brown jury box stands tall.

London-based interior design firm Sigmar has revamped the property to a high standard, maintaining their goal of ‘creating intelligent modernist spaces that are warm and personal’. Original elements can be found throughout Court Room No.1. In the open-plan kitchen, a rich brown jury box stands tall; a remnant from the past now becomes a focal point amidst sleek and bright surfaces. Custom-made in the US and Paris, the lighting combines vintage and industrial, infusing the home with refinement. Perhaps the strongest selling points of the property are the 35 ft vaulted reception space with imposing walls ideal for displaying art and a mezzanine level serving as a perfect relaxation area.
Natural light floods the space, creating a welcoming feel; an essential feature in any home, here it brings a sense of calm and balances an eclectic decor. Designer chairs from Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Jeanneret and Finn Juhl are placed alongside modern items, artworks and natural materials. The atmosphere is sophisticated and warm at the same time, with bespoke color tones on the walls adding a brightening finishing touch to the apartment. A courtyard garden provides a welcome break from the fast-paced city. Court Room No.1 captures the best of two worlds, with subtle traces of the past alongside contemporary flair and exquisite accents in a house that feels like a home.
