“Nobody really needs a clock” is Leff Amsterdam‘s powerful motto that succinctly explains the design studio’s philosophy. It also sheds a light on why their clocks and watches look like they do, placing style and aesthetic value at the forefront of their design. Previously announced for a September 2015 launch, the S42 and D42 series have finally arrived. They are designed with plenty of minimalist flair and unique industrial charm, continuing the theme of the popular Tube Clock design, here in a more refined form that suits the personal nature of a watch. The extruded ring is more subtle yet more powerful, as it’s the only element to stand out against the simple, brushed surface of the watch. Both watches are analogue, and while this could very well be making a statement in a digital world, it mostly relates to staying true to the studio’s aim: “respect tradition but challenge convention”. Art pieces in their own right, the watches combine the both of both worlds as analogue instruments made with contemporary charm via timeless design. The S42 and D42 series are available with steel bracelets or leather straps respectively, with the watches come in chic matte black, golden brass, and cool gray steel. Buy here
