Fine watchmaking at its finest. Terra Cielo Mare (Earth Sky Sea) is an Italian family business that has been designing and making limited edition watches since 1999. “Each TCM watch is a tribute to a person or an endeavor which has left a mark in Italy’s historic past”, the company explains. The two new models launched at Baselworld 2016 celebrate a metropolis which has not only shaped modern Italy, but has also left its mark on the rest of Europe. Milan, the capital of Lombardy, the heart of Italian design and fashion, and the country’s economic center, is unsurprisingly a city full of style and it deserved a design to match. The Milano Classic and Milano Crono watches have a minimalist appearance and are made with a stunning attention to detail, which is one of the company’s signature features, along with handmade accents and bespoke services. A black textured dial complements the minimal markings and elegant hands completed with a vibrant blue PVD coating, in a chic contrast of colors and finishes. The dial can be customized for the owner to either mark a special event or a membership to a particular group, making the watch truly unique. The Unitas 6448 manual winding mechanism is derived from the ones found in antique pocket watches, and the Crono model also features a Concepto 3900 chronograph.
On the back of the case, there’s a beautiful engraving of the city’s main railway station, Milano Centrale, designed and built at the beginning of the 20th century by Ulisse Stacchini. The architect described the building as “a cathedral in movement”, so it is a poetic choice for adorning a work of art that measures the passage of time. In true Terra Cielo Mare fashion, the new models come with leather straps that have been handcrafted in Italy; the Classic model has a deer leather strap, and the Crono features a hand-stitched, English leather strap. Timeless and refined, the watches pay homage to a unique city and perfectly illustrate the allure of traditional craftsmanship and of modern Italian design.
