Making your home go green is easier than ever before, and now this applies even in the literal sense of the word. Pikaplant is an Amsterdam-based company with a noble goal of bringing nature inside modern living spaces, offices, schools, creative studios – basically anywhere. “Plants are good for people”, the company says, and this statement is backed by science. Studies have shown that having plants inside a home reduces stress, stimulates creativity, and increases productivity, while also regulating humidity and absorbing trace toxins from the air. Not to mention giving plenty of oxygen in return.
For the Milan Design Week 2016, Pikaplant will show three products: Jar, Tableau, and One. The latter is an award-winning design and previously named Best of Milan Design Week 2015. Already available in 90 shops worldwide, Jar is a hermetically sealed tabletop biotope which houses a self-sufficient plant. It will not require watering or air, as the green plant continually recycles both. Tableau is a self-watering planter that can be easily used in a kitchen, dining room, or a home office to grow aromatic herbs and smaller plants. The simple design features three ceramic pots, a steel base and a glass water reservoir; it has a wet-dry cycle and requires no electricity. One is an innovative vertical garden that allows the plants to determine their water requirements with a passive ebb-and-flow irrigation system. Again, no electricity is needed, making this design a great addition to any room, office, or public space. Made of glass and steel, One can hold a great selection of plants on its three shelves and can be used as a green wall or as a creative room divider.
