Admiring the striking Concretus speaker it may be hard to believe it’s the work of a second year product design student, but it was indeed created by one. Gražina Bočkutė designed this wireless Bluetooth speaker at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Lithuania. The name refers both to the material and to the design by combining two words: “concrete” and the Lithuanian word “konkreti”, which means particular, specific, or simple. The designer took inspiration from the Klaipėda pier tetrapods and experimented with various shapes and textures before finding the ideal form and finish for Concretus. Clean lines, gleaming metal accents and rough textures create a beautiful contrast between industrial and natural, providing a contemporary and ingenious take on classic speakers. There are only four buttons added on one side, but users can conveniently control the unit using their own smartphones or any device with integrated Bluetooth technology. Even though it has a minimalist design and a palette limited to shades of gray, Concretus is hard to overlook or to ignore, adding visual impact to living spaces effortlessly.
