Amidst the heavily built cityscape of New York, vibrant hues of the color spectrum come together to form a pixelated rainbow among earthy tones. These bright striations have been laid out around the pool at the Manhattan Park Pool club on Roosevelt Island to create a charming pop of color against the relatively monochrome Manhattan skyline. Designed by Andrew Faris, this rainbow pool design follows the “Block Party” theme chosen for this year. Roosevelt Island Associates created the mural as a part of a project by K&Co and Pliskin Architecture. According to Barak Pliskin, the pool deck was envisioned in a design that would complement the artist’s work while using colors similar to those of the “Hot Tea” theme of the previous year. Facing the challenge of rain delays, it ultimately took 10 days and over 60 gallons of paint to realize Faris’s vision. The vibrant poolside furniture and the bright yellow umbrellas set against the colorful gradient transform the mural into an immersive art installation, replete with swarms of people that make it one of the city’s hotspots this summer.
