Combining a sculptural design with functionality, simplicity and innovation, Turning Boxes offers an ingenious storage solution that perfectly suits the ever-changing modern world. Originally developed for the 2015 Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition by Hans Sandgren Jakobsen, the Turning Boxes will soon be launched in a limited first edition of just 50 signed products, all of which are already pre-ordered. The rotating modular cabinet is made of single, interconnected rectangular drawers that can be individually rotated, removed or displaced to suit particular interiors, practical needs or aesthetic requirements. The designer used American walnut and European maple to create the creative tower of 10 drawers.

With a single bolt and felt pads to limit friction, the boxes easily slide in and out of their initial location, “like a game of Chinese checkers.” A powerful color contrast and a design reminiscent of stacked books enhance the creative aspect of this distinct drawer tower that is meant to be equal parts functional item and a focal point in a modern décor. Part of the Naver Collection, Turning Boxes is made by Aksel Kjersgaard A/S, a furniture factory founded in 1952 that manufactures products for numerous Danish furniture designers using traditional Danish cabinetmaking methods.
