Taking two simple geometric shapes and creating minimalist, beautiful and memorable lighting is not an easy feat, but designer Quentin de Coster achieves this effortlessly. Designed for Belgian company Van Den Weghe, the SATELLITE lights are part of the new ITEMS series that features furniture and accessories with a sleek and modern design. Inspired by the company’s passion for making products from natural stone using a blend of craftsmanship, architecture, technology, and art, Quentin de Coster designed a simple yet striking lamp that follows the same trajectory. The lamp pays homage to natural stone while the design is founded upon the harmonious relationship between two basic geometric forms. In some ways, it is similar to the Himitsu Money Box, created by the designer with the same combination of simple geometry and playfulness. Featuring two cylinders, one made of marble and the other being the LED light, SATELLITE explores the beauty of simplicity but also references a dynamic relationship between the two elements. Seen from above while it is in use, the LED seems to be captured as it pauses in a rotation around the marble cylinder, just like a satellite circling a planet. The lamps are available in black or white and come with an LED tube of 6W. Ideal for adding a stylish accent to any interior, whether in an office or a cozy home, the lights will create a focal point with their sculptural appearance and their refined use of natural marble, light and geometry.
