Some custom builds pay homage to the classic features of the base bike. Others modernize the original look to stand out from the crowd. Then there’s UYC. Built by Death Machines of London, Up Yours Copper keeps true to its name and represents everything bike building and riding stands for. Unapologetic, badass, tough, unconventional. It might be just the perfect bike to carry one of Hunter S. Thompson’s infamous quotes. “Faster, faster, until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death,” appears engraved on a brass plate on the fuel tank filler.

Using a 2007 Triumph Thruxton 900, DMOL created a distinctive machine that looks like a work of art and probably rides even better. After taking everything apart and inspecting the parts, the team began the long process of bringing UYC to life. Unlike some builds, this project included the designing and in-house manufacturing of numerous parts. The rebuilt engine features a high-performance gas flowed cylinder head, custom velocity stacks and a bespoke exhaust system with ceramic coated pipes and a carbon fiber muffler. The team welded the hand-bent handlebars underneath, attaching them to a slotted custom top clamp. The bespoke aluminum headlight cowl houses a military spec 7’’ LED and also features a gorgeous solid brass speedometer that boasts precision-etching made using photolithography.

A 1940 Supermarine Spitfire Mk1 magneto switch gives the motorcycle a truly special finish, while the American walnut seat made by Ben Heeney at Ian Dunn Woodwork and Design in London is hand-carved and assembled from 17 separate parts to ensure ultimate comfort. Original, creative and full of character, UYC looks ready to take to the streets in style and turn some heads. As DMOL’s only second build, it clearly announces to the world that the best is yet to come. And we’re more than happy to wait. Photography by David Clerihew.
