Nokia 3310 Phone

The indestructible, era-defining phone of the early 00’s, Nokia’s bestseller makes a modern comeback almost 17 years after its debut. The company sold 125 million models, and since that time the Nokia brand has moved out of the business of cellular technology.
The company re-launching the 3310 is HMD Global, a Finnish private-equity firm constituted to make the phone. Announced at the Mobile World Congress tech show, HMD Global stated “For the Nokia 3310 we just couldn’t resist. We wanted to reward loyal Nokia phone fans and make a statement that rich heritage, innovation and modern design can go hand-in-hand.” It’s a unique opportunity to restore the beloved 3310 past glory, and introduce it to a new generation of consumers.

The candy-colored series is positioned as a “feature phone” versus the omnipresent smartphone. It’s operating system has a limited web browser, with a primary focus on calls, texts, and play the forever-classic game Snake. The device weights less than three ounces and boasts a battery life of 21 days in standby mode.

In an era where each generation of smartphone boast cutting-edge technology with a cost to match, the 3310 offers a vital opportunity in emerging markets, where simple connectivity is revolutionary. Marketed in Europe at 49 Euros, its appeal where money is scarce becomes evident. In a world that still feels disparate and vast, this 17-year-old phone offers a real chance to open doors. To move forwards, we sometimes must reach back into the past.
