Traveling to other cities, countries or even continents is always exciting. It offers an opportunity to experience the world from a slightly – or starkly – different point of view and discover the local flavor of a place before crashing in for the night in a comfortable bed. But what if the hotel could be a part of the traveling experience and represent more than just an anonymous room?

This is where Lokal comes in. It’s the first boutique hotel in Philadelphia that provides an “invisible service”, which means that it doesn’t have a classic front desk and the usual check-in process. Instead, the service anticipates the needs of the guests and offers a “highly curated and authentic Philly experience.” Travelers receive automated codes to enter one of the six rooms, which are all equipped with iPads to provide access to food and grocery delivery, as well as direct communication with staff, if needed. Ultimately, the goal is to make the guests feel free and comfortable. “We want our guests to truly feel like a local Philadelphian. From staying in a beautiful apartment style room, to our local recommendations of things to do – we want you to experience Philly the way we do,” says co-founder Chad Ludeman.

Designed by Jersey Ice Cream Company, the rooms combine mid-century modern vibes with industrial and rustic accents in comfortable, loft-like spaces. Beautiful art, distinctive décor accents and books enhance the refined yet relaxed look and feel further. Guests have access to kitchens where they can cook their meals and to washers/dryers. Located in the gorgeous Old City, the hotel provides easy access to coffee shops and art galleries as well as to various independent boutique shops and excellent restaurants. Lokal’s launch party takes place on April 1st, with bookings opening on the 3rd. If you’re planning on visiting Philly and want to book a room, at $195 or $240 per night, go here.
