Plenty of exciting things happen at every Baselworld event, but this year marks an important milestone for one of the world’s most popular brands. The Omega Speedmaster, Railmaster and Seamaster watches turn 60 in 2017 and the company decided to celebrate in style by launching three highly collectible designs that pay homage to the brand’s heritage in a special way.

Introduced in 1957, the three timepieces combined style and high-performance. The most famous of the trio, the Speedmaster, gained NASA’s seal of approval and an official authorization for the space program. In 1969, it became the first timepiece to reach the Moon when Buzz Aldrin wore one during the Apollo 11 mission. Over the years, the brand continuously improved and adapted the iconic model, launching a self-winding chronograph movement in 1971. Design also played a big part in the evolution of the watch. The limited-edition 1996 model inspired by the world of F1 racing features bold red and yellow colors, while the 2013 ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ edition boasts elegant monochrome tones and refined golden or rose gold accents.

But for the 60th anniversary, Omega chose an unexpected and ingenious way to celebrate the icons. The original Speedmaster, Railmaster and Seamaster appear as a trio in the new collection. Reborn via state-of-the-art digital scanning technology to ensure perfect accuracy, the watches seemed to have traveled through time. Changes include only new movements for modern performance, superior materials and the latest manufacturing technologies. The design? Faithful to the originals, down to the smallest detail. Brought to life with period-accurate features that reproduce the charm of the vintage pieces, the 2017 edition of the three Omega timepieces feature smaller, 1957-style cases with brushed or polished finishes and the original broad arrow hands. Ideal for fans of the brand and collectors in equal measure, this special limited-edition collection will be available online and in stores later this year.
