After supporting artist Guido van Helten, who created the world’s largest reconfigurable street art piece, Red Bull partnered with South African artist Falko One for the Amaphiko Academy initiative. A “launchpad for grassroots social entrepreneurs who are making a positive difference in their community,” the academy recently celebrated the creative spirit of the local community in Mamelodi, South Africa. For 10 days, musicians, dancers and artists transformed Tsweu Street into a haven for artistic expression.

At the center of the creative event, Falko’s vibrant murals became a connecting thread running across the entire community. A herd of colorful elephants now adorn exposed brick walls and sheds as well as homes and businesses. Scattered around the local area, the 25 murals breathe new life into Mamelodi. But their impact goes on beyond this memorable event. The artworks are there to stay as a reminder of the community’s sometimes forgotten connection to art and creativity. In June 2017, the powerful symbolism of the elephant and the power of art came together to bring a bit of magic into the world. Images courtesy of Red Bull.
