If there’s a custom build that would look equally at home in an automotive museum or a design exhibition, it’s this Honda Super Cub ‘Firefly’ by Deus Ex Machina. The workshop has a reputation for creative builds that stand out on city streets, but this project takes things up a notch. Or two. Inspired by the TT and GP bikes of the 1950s and 1960s, Director of Motorcycle Operations Matthew Roberts took a 1961 Honda bike and created a minimalist gem.
Unsurprisingly, the project required some serious work. The new bike has a custom frame and monocoque body, with clean lines that run from the front all the way to the back. A new engine with a 20% capacity increase joins re-engineered or upgraded parts and pieces. These include a new battery and electric system, handmade rear set foot controls, a front fork rebound unit as well as sport Japanese alloy rims and custom spokes. A light blue color gives the motorcycle a retro feel, while the oxblood red leather seat adds a touch of contrast and the perfect finishing touch to this work of art. Photography © Deus Ex Machina.
