For wine lovers, Christmas has come really early this year. Introducing eto – the world’s first decanter that keeps wine fresh for at least 12 days via an innovative system. As many brilliant inventions take shape, this one began with a startling realization. In UK, 50 million liters of wine are unceremoniously poured down the sink every year. Passionate about the environment, industrial designer Tom Cotton wanted to change that statistic with a practical solution which improved upon a method used by experts, of simply pouring leftover wine in a smaller bottle. eto, which means ‘again’ in Welsh, features a patented airtight seal which automatically locks when it reaches the surface of the liquid. By stopping the oxidation process, the decanter keeps the wine fresh and provides the opportunity to enjoy it even two weeks after first opening the bottle.
Cleverly designed, eto combines style and function. First, it decants the wine, enhancing its flavor. Then it offers drip-free pouring thanks to a sharp lip. It fits perfectly in the fridge door, for more convenience. Of course, it preserves the wine for optimum freshness. And it also looks simply beautiful. The brand’s Kickstarter campaign reached its goal in under 32 hours. At the time of writing, it still has 28 days to go, ending on July 6 2017.
