Apart from his acting and writing, Bologna-based artist Giuseppe Palmisano also creates intriguing photographs that look at the human body in a new way. Slightly surreal as well as unnerving, his images feature creative compositions. The carefully staged models become a part of the setting. The human body transforms into a simple object, a prop in a room with furniture in muted colors. Seen from behind or with the head hidden beneath another object, the bodies transition into anonymous mannequins. But their presence dominates the scene.
The hypnotic atmosphere blends surrealism and a dispassionate view of the human body. Despite being half-naked, the models don’t nearly express eroticism as much as they suggest lifelessness. Inanimate characters in a play, they bring a new, intriguing context to the stage, while also placing the beauty of the human body in a symbiotic relationship with the lines of furniture pieces and other decor objects.
